POSITION DESCRIPTION

Job Duties:  Serves as primary receptionist responsible for reception (including both phone and walk-in) and scheduling in the Financial Aid Office. This office is a high traffic office that deals directly with a large number of students and visitors on a daily basis. The office has two main incoming phone lines and receives a high volume of phone calls daily. A director, three counselors, and four administrative personnel currently staff the office. The position functions as part of a team to initiate and support the entire financial aid application process as well as overall daily office operations. The duties of the position are accomplished thru the use of applied knowledge specific to the area of financial aid. Communication skills, computer skills, problem solving and the ability to multitask are necessary for effective overall job performance.

Other specific areas of responsibility include financial aid office inbox emails and mail activities. Has primary responsibility for the coordination and maintenance of administrative functions related to the Job Location Development program (a program linking employers and students seeking employment).

Nearly 300 students were hired and around 300 job orders were posted in 2004-05 under this program with a total exceeding $700,000 in wages paid. And finally, the position has responsibility for the coordination and maintenance of administrative functions related to the Short Term Loan program (provides students with cash loans, usually $200 or less, to help pay for emergencies) funded through the UW -L Foundation.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  This position requires knowledge of the financial aid program, a thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office, e-mail software, customer service, good communication skills, problem solving and multi-tasking skills.

APPOINTMENT

Full Time  (40 hrs/week)
 

Pay will be based on the rules that apply to compensation upon transfer, reinstatement or voluntary demotion; beginning pay will not be less than the minimum ($12.298).  Pay range 02-09.  A six-month probationary period will be required.
