POSITION DESCRIPTION

Job Duties:  Under the general supervision of the department chairperson, this position is responsible for independently providing office management, program support and coordination of the instructional and administrative activities of the Department of Management. The position requires independent thinking and decision-making skills, as well as a high degree of time and office management skill. Of critical importance to the position is an extensive knowledge of University policies and procedures; resources and goals to prioritize and control the work flow effectively. Responsibilities include working with confidential material (i.e., promotion, retention, and tenure data for PRT Committees, collection of data for merit point breakdown by Merit Committees, applicant information for Search and Screen Committees). Also, hire, supervise, and train student office workers during the academic year and during the summer; edit and maintain the department Web page; develop and implement a procedure for ordering textbooks for three academic departments; schedule rooms for classes, meetings, and other events; schedule meal and lodging reservations for speakers and faculty position applicants and process travel reimbursements, monitor and order of computer supplies and other office supplies.

 

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  This position requires strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to manage office operations i.e. hire, train and evaluate student support, maintain a budget and inventory, file and maintain records and similar office functions; work independently and take initiative; be skilled in Word, Excel, and Outlook or similar software; and have good oral and written communication skills.

APPOINTMENT

This is an 85% position with the majority of hours during the academic year, while students are on campus, and limited hours during the summer and breaks.
 

Pay will be based on the rules that apply to compensation upon transfer, reinstatement or voluntary demotion; beginning pay will not be less than the minimum ($13.292).  A six-month probationary period is required. This position is in pay schedule and range 02-10/11, and is represented by the Administrative Support bargaining unit.
