POSITION DESCRIPTION

Job Duties:  Under the general supervision of Enterprise Computing Management and direction of the lead Database Administrator, this position administers Oracle PeopleSoft Campus Solutions environments and UW-L’s internally developed enterprise systems. This includes configuring, monitoring, and coordinating upgrades/patches. Serves as the initial point of contact to identify and resolve production and/or applications development problems related to the use of PeopleSoft and database management system software and utilities.


Duties also include back-up support of Oracle DBA duties including but not limited to: 1) Database Setup and Configuration, 2) Day-to-Day Database Administration, 3) Backup and Recovery, 4) Performance Tuning & Diagnostics and 5) Database design & architecture.


This person also provides technical leadership with Functional areas, Developers, Instructional units, and Server/Security administration in the successful design, development, enhancement, upgrades, and implementation of additional systems and software applications as needed.

 

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

A strong candidate will have basic knowledge of Oracle Enterprise Database Software, i.e. OEM, OMS, PL/SQL, RMAN, Database Concepts, J2EE component deployment, data warehousing, and Oracle Application Server, Java fundamentals, server OS and hardware, LINUX; sufficient knowledge of hardware, server operating system, and database software components to effectively size, define, implement, tune, and secure the database environment.  Working knowledge of LDAP (X500), Active Directory, SQL Server, Networking Concepts, Project Management, Systems Development Lifecycle Methodology, database design and management tools such as: MS-Project, PowerPoint, Visio, SmartDraw, UML.  Additionally helpful is knowledge of PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, administration and installation; MF COBOL, integrating tools, Process Scheduler and Application Engineer.

APPOINTMENT

Full Time  (40 hrs/week)
 

Pay will be between $43,764 and $53,500 per  year.  This position is in pay schedule and range 07-03, and is represented by the Fiscal and Staff Services bargaining unit.  A six-month probationary period will be required.

Question #1  Describe in detail, your PeopleSoft (ERP) Administration experience & skills. Include in your response:

1.      Configuring and maintaining complex ERP server environments: web, application, database, and process/batch servers.

2.       Steps taken to identify, apply, test, and promote to production critical and non-critical upgrades/patches.

3.       Monitoring system availability & performance and corrective actions taken.

4.      Process Scheduler – steps taken to set-up and monitor batch processes. 

5.       System security – steps taken to administer security - identify user roles and system access

 

Question #2  Describe DBA functions you have performed or assisted with in the following:

1.      Day to day administration - Examples include - performance monitoring, capacity planning, monitoring error logs & job files, & system availability.

2.      Experience configuring and deploying J2EE applications and databases.

3.      Backup and recovery tasks/assignments.

4.      Problem management - customer service problems and problem escalation up to and including vendor support, and final resolution. 

 

Question #3 Describe in detail your role as a project leader and the management tools or processes you have used to implement a system that met or exceeded your customers’ application and database requirements.  Include in your responses:

1.      Productivity tools or concepts such as: ERD, UML diagrams, MS – Project / Visio / PPT.

2.      Systems Development Methodologies, PMP processes, vendor contracts & services.

3.      Translation of the system requirements into a resource plan.

4.      System installation and configuration

5.      Testing and training

6.      Implementation

7.      Post implementation.
