Community Involvement
Physical Therapy graduate students are involved in
many community events that benefit the La Crosse Community. The Physical
Therapy faculty and staff are proud of the students efforts!!
Past community involvement includes:
- Aquatic Therapy & Community

Awareness plus accessibility focus on local library

- Halloween Food Drive. Students "Trick or Treat"
for non-perishable food items to help stock local food shelves in
the La Crosse region. Past involvement (Halloween 2000) has generated
donations of approximately 100 bags of food.
- Physical Therapy Friends and Family Weekend: Money
raised from the raffle that took place during this event were donated
to: American Cancer Society for Breast Cancer Awareness in the names
of Dr. Patricia Wilder and Mrs. Carol Davies, and the Miami-Marquette
Challenge (to support research in Physical Therapy for evidence based
practice).
- Students volunteer to serve meals at the local
Salvation Army.
- Adopt a Family for Christmas (Salvation Army).
Gifts were donated to a needy family in the community.
- Massage Days: Proceeds donated to the Miami-Marquette
Challenge.
- Spring 2001: UW-La Crosse hosted the State Physical
Therapy Student Conclave in conjunction with the WWTC Physical Therapy
Assistants program. Student from 8 schools in the state of Wisconsin
attended. Group presentations and workshops were presented by local
clinicians and faculty.
- Habitat for Humanity: Students are involved in
local building projects.
- March of Dimes Walk: Fundraiser for the March of
Dimes.
- Good Neighbor Day: Students help with yard work/clean
up of people in need in the La Crosse Community.
- Service Learning Project in Puebla, Mexico and
Nicaragua where students learned about Physical Therapy services and
educational programs in another country for the elderly and children
with special needs.
