Avoiding Plagiarism

According to the UW System Administrative code, UWS 14.03, academic misconduct is claiming credit for the work or efforts of another without authorization or citation.

While most student understand that they must give credit for exact quotes, they often don’t realize that they must also credit ideas they gleaned from other sources. In many cases, students don’t understand the rules and plagiarism is unintentional.

For a better understanding of when to cite sources, we recommend the following plagiarism tutorial, created by Paul Robeson Library at Rutgers University:  (Flash player required)
