Obtaining Strains, Probe, etc.

The strains, luxA probe, and other DNAs required for the manual are no longer available directly from the authors. However we are happy to announce that they are now available through FOTODYNE, Inc.:

Any of the strains listed in Appendix XVI are available except for E. coli (pJE202). This strain is not needed for any of the exercises and is listed only for historical purposes. Also available are 8 diverse environmental isolates of luminescent bacteria (for use in Exercise 23).

The alkaline-phosphatase labeled probe (used in exercise 16, 21, and 24) is available in 0.1 nmol aliquots for $150.00 (plus shipping and handling). This is sufficient to perform 50-75 hybridizations. Several of the DNAs used in the course are also available including:
