- UW-L ranks No.3 in the Midwest's top regional public universities listing by U.S.News & World Report's College Guide. (2008) That's the highest ranking of any UW System school.
- UW-L ranks No. 33 on the list of Kiplinger's 100 Best Values in Public Colleges. (Feb. 2007) It is one of only three UW schools that made the list, UW-Madison is No.25 and UW-Eau Claire, No, 65.
- The American Association of State Colleges and Universities placed UW-L among 12 universities nationally for successfully graduating students. UW-L was the only Wisconsin university or college on the list.

- Men's Fitness magazine (October 2006) ranked UW-L No. 12 in fitness among all sizes of campuses nationwide. The survey looked at campus culture of fitness, exercise and factors that influence health and well-being.
- Students stay with UW-L at higher rates than other comparable universities. Eighty-seven percent of 2005 freshmen came back as sophomores, and the six-year graduation rate was 67 percent, up 10 percent from five years earlier. UW-L ranks second only to UW-Madison in retention and graduation rates among UW System schools.
- UW-L boosts more than 160 student organizations, including 50 department/professional societies and 29 social organizations.
- UW-L, the fourth-largest comprehensive university, confers more degrees than any other UW comprehensive campus. A high percentage of UW-L graduates stay in Wisconsin.
- Students are involved in research, working side-by-side with faculty. In April 2007, 23 UW-L undergraduates presented results of their research at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research at Dominican University in San Rafael, California. UW-L will host the event in 2009.
- UW-L is a member of the NCAA Division III athletic conference, with nine varsity teams for women, eight for men. The University has won 34 national championships and numerous conference titles since 1991.
- UW-L has forged relationships with more than 25 universities and several program partners to offer study abroad programs around the world. Foundation Assets
- Endowment funds of $12.9 million provide income for 303 scholarship programs and 49 multipurpose programs for departmental research, program support and professional development programs.
- The UW-L Foundation also manages 196 restricted funds, which provide operating support for various departments and programs, The current balance of restricted funds is $1.5 million.
- The UW-L Foundation also has $157,000 in unrestricted funds to be used for foundation and university priorities to enhance UW-L's margin of excellence.
