Camp Director’s Background

For the past 27 plus years, Clown Camp® has been directed by Dr. Richard Snowberg. Besides being an emeriti faculty member at the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse, he is an award winning clown and educator.
He has written five books on clowning, is an inductee into the International Clown Hall of Fame, and is a past president of the World Clown Association.

For over twenty-five years Snowberg was more often seen as the whiteface clown, Snowflake. However, during the past seven years his new character, Snowflake Junior-or more simply Junior has taken center stage.

Welcome Message from Director

Welcome to our University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Clown Camp® website. Within these pages of information we have attempted to give you a descriptive and pictorial idea of what the Clown Camp® experience is all about. Our attendees represent many different interests. As you’ll see there is a lot that we have to offer, and a great deal of variety in our offerings. Whatever your interest or ability level, you’ll fit right into our family of clowns.

It has been a pleasure to have met so many clowns and clown hopefuls over the past 27 years. I can’t begin to tell you how many great friends my wife Jan and I have made as a result of Clown Camp®. As any attendee to our program can attest, the feeling one gets at camp is family. We care for one another, and enjoy one another’s mutual company.

You will find that camp is a safe environment in which to try new things. You’ll be able to stretch your limits, and experience things you’ve never thought possible. Clown Camp® is much like a cafeteria, where you can pick and choose that which you’d like to taste. And, if you like the taste, you can more intensively pursue that particular interest.

Most of our website is dedicated to describing our June 7-13 program in La Crosse. You will also find information on our post camp Friday, June 13th workshops. We realize that many participants ‘can’t get enough’. So, we have developed a day of workshops and fun, which includes meals and Friday night lodging, for an additional cost of $115. The day concludes with a dinner cruise on a paddlewheel riverboat on Friday evening. We’ll enjoy a soothing 2 1/2 hour cruise on the Mississippi River. (Last year’s participants raved about this experience.)

Finally, if you want to read what past participants thought about Clown Camp®, please click here.

We look forward to seeing you in La Crosse in June of 2008.

Best clown wishes,

Rich Snowberg

Camp Director
