UW-L Advances to WIAC Semifinals with Win

La Crosse, Wis. The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team, 17th in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) rankings, advanced to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Tournament Semifinals with a 3-0 (30-21, 30-18, 34-32) win over UW-Stevens Point Tuesday night in Mitchell Hall. UW-L, seeded fourth in this year's tournament, advances to the semifinals and will play at top-seed UW-Whitewater Friday, November 2.
UW-L improves to 23-8 on the season with its win Tuesday while UW-Stevens Point drops to 23-12. The Eagles have now won 18 of the last 19 meetings with the Pointers.
Katelyn Carlson led UW-L with 16 kills while Nina Walch and Amber Schoonover each finished with nine. Samanatha Dries had 40 assists for the Eagles, who hit .186 as a team. UW-L hit .333 in game two with 17 kills and two errors in 45 attempts.
Carlson and Dries led the team with 16 digs each while Melannie Tate recorded 12 and Emily Carroll 11. Walch and Schoonover had eight digs each with Schoonover becoming the 14th player in school history to record 1,000 in her career. She now has 1,007 in three years.
Shelly Maus led UW-Stevens Point with 11 kills Tuesday night while adding 17 digs and two blocks. Jill Wittmann finished with 31 assists and 14 digs while Amand Mix had a team-leading 22 digs. Gina Guell added 14 digs for the Pointers and Pam Nora 12.
The Pointers hit .173 as a team.
UW-L returns to action Friday, November 2 at UW-Whitewater in the WIAC Tournament Semifinals at 7:30 p.m.
