UW-L Falls to Ninth-Ranked Carthage; Defeats Number One Ranked Juniata

Oshkosh, Wis. The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team went 1-1 at the first day of the UW-Oshkosh Invitational Friday night in Oshkosh. The Eagles, ranked 19th in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), opened with a 3-2 (14-30, 21-30, 30-28, 30-25, 6-15) loss to ninth-ranked Carthage College (Wis.) Friday.
The Eagles had defeated Carthage 3-1 (30-20, 25-30, 31-29, 30-19) earlier this season at the UW-L Invitational.
UW-L then came back to defeat number one ranked Juniata College (Pa.) 3-2 (27-30, 30-27, 30-22, 22-30, 15-11) in its second match Friday night. It marked Juniata's first loss to an NCAA Division III team this season. Juniata, the defending NCAA Division III champions, entered Friday's match with UW-L with a 22-2 record with its two losses coming to NCAA Division I Princeton University and NCAA Division II California (Pa.).
UW-L returns to action Saturday, October 13 at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational. The Eagles will face third-ranked UW-Whitewater at 10 a.m. and against a yet to be determined opponent at 12:15 p.m.
