UW-L Competes at St. Mary's and Minnesota State

Winona/Mankato, Minn. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women’s track & field team competed at the St. Mary’s (Minn.) Invitational and Minnesota State Open Saturday. No team scores were kept at either meet.

At St. Mary’s, Caitlin Wipperman won the 200-meter dash (26.79) for UW-L while Mary Olson captured the 3,000-meter run (11:09.30), Whitney Nefstead the 5,000-meter run (19:02.73) and Chris Clausen the 55-meter hurdles (8.70).

Kaitlin Genthe, Alicia Ellingstad and Jamie Scott all tied for first in the pole vault for the Eagles (10-10).

Second-place finishers on the track included: Kailey Charlton in the 55-meter dash (7.56), Lauren Seidl in the 200-meter dash (27.01), Stephanie Carney in the mile run (5:35.06), Kelsey Katarow in the 400-meter dash (1:01.41), Brittany Scheu in the 800-meter run (2:23.77), Kasey Kalien in the 3,000-meter run (11:48.78) and Kayla La Porte in the 5,000-meter run (19:22.31). UW-L also finished second in the 4x400-meter relay (4:13.02).

In field events, Lauren Terry was second in the high jump (4-8 ¼) while Jessie Schulz placed second in the long jump (15-10 ½) and Abby Schulz finished second in the triple jump (35-7 ¼). Christy Bohl placed second in the shot put (41-1 ¾) while Tina Schmidt was second in the weight throw (50-6).

At the Minnesota State Open, Megan Johnson, Katelyn Williams and Caitlin Schetter all recorded second-place finishes. Johnson was second in the mile run (5:17.36) while Williams placed second in the 5,000-meter run (17:37.07) and Schetter finished second in the long jump (17-10 ¼).

Krista Kopetsky placed third in the long jump (17-8) for the Eagles while Katie Fondow was fourth in the triple jump (35-6 ¾).

Other fourth-place finishers included: Katie Steingraeber in the 400-meter dash (59.10), Meghan Dugan in the mile (5:19.53), Beth Richmond in the 800-meter run (2:22.53) and Rachel DeDeyn in the 5,000-meter run (19:06.62).
