Erickson Named Midwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year

New Orleans, La. – UW-La Crosse's Travis Erickson has been selected the 2009 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Midwest Region Women's Outdoor Assistant Coach of the Year.

Erickson, who primarily coaches the jumps, has eight student-athletes who achieved qualifying marks for the 2009 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships. He coached three Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) champions at this year's league outdoor meet May 1-2 at UW-Oshkosh. Amy Jo Garringer won the high jump in 2009 while Caitlin Schetter captured the long jump and Katie Fondow the triple jump.

Schetter also won the long and triple jump at the 2009 WIAC Indoor Championships and was selected the Field Athlete of the Meet. Schetter took her second consecutive indoor long jump title at the 2009 NCAA Division III Championships and was selected the USTFCCCA National Indoor Track & Field Women's Field Athlete of the Year. It marked the second straight season she earned the honor.

The USTFCCCA selects the top track athlete, field athlete, head coach, and assistant coach for the eight regions in NCAA Division III outdoor track & field.

UW-L returns to action Thursday, May 21 at the NCAA III Outdoor Championships at Marietta College (Ohio).
