UW-La Crosse Opens Season with Win at UW-Eau Claire Invite

Eau Claire, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track & field team opened its season with a win at the UW-Eau Claire Blugold Open Friday night. The Eagles finished with 189 team points while the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) was second with 133 and Winona State University (Minn.) third with 107. A total of seven teams competed.

Four individuals came away with wins Friday night for UW-L. On the track, Katelyn Williams captured the 5,000-meter run (17:58.86) and Danica Schaefer the 400-meter run (59.46). The Eagles also won the 4x400-meter relay (4:04.94).

In field events, Jamie Scott won the pole vault (10-6) while Katie Fondow was first in the long jump (17-0 1/2).

Other top results on the track included the 4x200-meter relay placing second (1:48.83). Caitlin Perra was second (1:00.54) and Abby Lien fourth (1:01.23) in the 400-meter dash run while Katie Steingraeber placed second (27.08), Caitlin Wipperman third (27.21) and Stephanie Lasko fourth (27.31) in the 200-meter dash.

Meghan Dugan was third in the mile run (5:19.81) and Kristen Howe third in the 5,000-meter run (19:17.23) while Ashton May finished third (8.97) and Sammy Groth fourth (8.98) in the 55-meter hurdles.

In field events, Chris Clausen finsihed second (10-0) and Tiffany Ness fourth (10-0) in the pole vault for UW-L. Christy Bohl was second in the shot put (39-1 3/4) and Krista Kopetsky third in the long jump (16-3 1/4). Abby Schulz finished second in the triple jump (35-1) while May was fourth (34-4 3/4).
