UW-L Drops Opening Match on Spring Trip

Orlando, Fla. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women’s tennis team fell 8-1 to Carthage College (Wis.) Monday in Orlando to begin its spring trip. The Eagles fall to 6-5 on the season while the Lady Reds improve to 8-6. Carthage is ranked 10th in the region.

Carthage won all six singles matches. Gina Klein defeated Carlie Bohrman at No. 1 singles (3-6, 6-1, 6-3) while Beth Kaufman defeated Debbie Braun at No. 2 (6-1, 6-1) and Taylor Gustafson beat Katie McDonald at No. 3 (6-1, 6-3).

At No. 4 singles, the Lady Reds' Katie Hornick defeated the Eagles' Sarah Schoenwaelder (6-2, 7-5). Ashley Morgan beat Kristen Holle at No. 5 (7-5, 4-6, 6-3) and Kristina Roglin defeated Anna Schmidt at No. 6 (5-7, 6-3, 6-3).

In doubles competition, UW-L's Braun/McDonald defeated Julie Rendino/Morgan at No. 2 (8-5). Kaufman/Hornick defeated the Eagles' Bohrman/Schoenwaelder at No. 1 (9-7) and Klein/Liz Hood defeated Holle/Stephanie Platto at No. 3 (8-2).

UW-L returns to action Tuesday, March 18 versus Stevens Institute of Technology (N.J.) at 8 a.m. in Orlando.
