UW-L Women Place Second; Men Fourth at UW-Stevens Point Invite

Stevens Point, Wis. - The UW-La Crosse women's and men's swimming and diving teams finished competition at the UW-Stevens Point Get to the Point Invitational Saturday night. The Eagles' women's squad placed second out of eight teams while the UW-L men's team was fourth among seven teams.

In the women's division, UW-L placed second with 804 points while the University of North Dakota was first with 866.5. UW-Stevens Point placed third (577) followed by Minnesota State, Mankato (556.5), Minnesota-Moorhead (347), Gustavus Adolphus (338), UW-Eau Claire (205) and UW-Whitewater (175).

UW-L's men's team was fourth with 653.5 points while North Dakota was first with 807. UW-Stevens Point placed second (732), Gustavus Adolphus third (683.5), UW-L, Minnesota State, Mankato (455), UW-Whitewater (244) and UW-Eau Claire (231).

Chelsea Hoff won the 50 freestyle (24.38) and 100 backstroke (58.86) for UW-L while finishing second in the 100 freestyle (53.04). Hoff earned NCAA Division III "B" qualifying times in all three events.

Amanda Medendorp qualified for the national championships in diving as she won the 1-meter competition (410.60 points). Shannon Doyle was second in the 1-meter diving (401.90) and also qualified for the NCAA III Championships. Kristina Wanous placed third in the 1-meter (389.00) and 3-meter (420.00) diving, qualifying for the national meet in the 3-meter.

The Eagles' Kristi Parker placed second in the 100 (1:00.61) and 200 (2:13.72) backstroke while Anita Talavera finished third in the 200 butterfly (2:18.40) and fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:23.50).

Other top finishers included Danielle Rux third in the 200 freestyle (2:01.06) and Katelyn Hartung fourth in the 100 butterfly (1:01.76).

UW-L had three second-place relay finishes this weekend, including in the 200 (1:39.81) and 400 (3:38.30) freestyle and 400 medley relay (4:04.66). The Eagles were third in the 200 medley (1:51.94) and 800 freestyle (8:11.03) relays.

In men's action, UW-L's Lance Scadden placed second in the 100 backstroke (54.74) and third in the 200 backstroke (2:01.73).

Tony Wolff finished second in the 100 freestyle (48.29) while Mike Hruska was third in the 200 breaststroke (2:15.56) for the Eagles. Cole Swanson placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.33) and Anthony Schmidt was fourth in the 400 I.M. (4:24.84).

The Eagles were second in the 400 freestyle relay (3:12.39) and third in the 200 (1:27.24) and 800 (7:20.32) freestyle relays as well as the 400 medley relay (3:36.27). UW-L placed fourth in the 200 medley relay (1:37.87).
