Swimming & Diving Teams Sweep UW-Oshkosh

La Crosse, Wis. - The UW-La Crosse women's and men's swimming and diving teams swept a WIAC dual with UW-Oshkosh Saturday afternoon in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles' women's squad won 186-51 while the men's team won 177-61.
In women's action, Ellie Werner won two individual titles for UW-L, capturing the 1,000 freestyle (11:20.57) and 100 breaststroke (1:10.67).
Other winners included: Katelyn Hartung in the 200 freestyle (1:59.36), Brianna Peyer in the 50 freestyle (25.01), Nora Tetkoski in the 200 I.M. (2:21.18), Clare Hathaway in the 100 butterfly (1:02.71), Chelsea Hoff in the 100 freestyle (52.66), Kelly Borden in the 100 backstroke (1:05.05) and Danielle Rux in the 500 freestyle (5:32.49).
Amanda Medendorp won the 3-meter diving (289.50 points) while Kristina Wanous captured the 1-meter (269.15). Medendorp was second in the 1-meter (267.80) and Wanous second in the 3-meter (269.60).
UW-L also won the 200 medley relay (1:53.02) with the team of Jennifer Bryson, Kacie O'Brien, Kristi Parker and Rux.
Janelle Callahan and Danielle Gray each had a pair of second-place finishes Saturday. Callahan was second in the 500 (5:38.19) and 1,000 (11:33.17) freestyle while Gray was second in the 200 I.M. (2:21.75) and 100 butterfly (1:03.11).
Second-place finishes included: Jennifer Kolmos in the 200 freestyle (2:03.77), O'Brien in the 50 freestyle (25.75) and Lauren Sweeney in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.50). UW-L's 200 freestyle relay also placed second (1:45.70).
In men's action, UW-L won the 200 medley relay (1:37.65) with Casey Borden, Matthew Diehl, Tony Wolff and Kevin Ballweg and 200 freestyle relay (1:27.78) with Micah Fulmer, Christopher Boyle, Benjamin Knutson and Michael Beilman.
Individual winners included: Matthew Schmerbauch in the 1,000 freestyle (10:47.19),Wolff in the 200 freestyle (1:48.36), Fulmer in the 50 freestyle (22.20), Diehl in the 200 I.M. (2:01.25), Beilman in the 100 butterfly (54.88), Boyle in the 100 freestyle (48.66), Borden in the 100 backstroke (56.86), Colin Schmidt in the 500 freestyle (5:01.00) and Cole Swanson in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.12).
Karl Richters and Chad Martin both recorded a pair of second-place finishes Saturday. Richters was second in the 50 (22.60) and 100 (49.51) freestyle while Martin placed second in the 200 I.M. (2:09.75) and 100 breaststroke (1:03.96).
Wollf was second in the 500 freestyle (5:24.60) while Eric Schleicher was second in the 1,000 freestyle (10:57.03). Ballweg placed second in the 100 butterfly (55.71) and Michael Hruska was second in the 100 backstroke (58.75). Tanner Classon finished second in the 3-meter diving competition (216.70 points).
UW-L returns to action Saturday, February 9 hosting UW-Whitewater at 1 p.m.
