UW-L Falls Twice to UW-Whitewater

La Crosse, Wis. – The UW-La Crosse softball team dropped a pair of games with UW-Whitewater Monday afternoon at North Campus Field. The Warhawks took the opener, 2-0, and the nightcap, 6-1. UW-L falls to 16-11 overall and 2-4 in the WIAC while UW-Whitewater improves to 15-3 overall and 4-0 in the conference.
In the opener, Jessica Stang (4-1) earned the win, pitching 7.0 innings, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out seven. The Warhawks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning on Suzanne Gersich's RBI single scoring Amy Gahl. UW-Whitewater made it 2-0 in the fifth as Amanda LeBeau scored on a UW-L throwing error.
Gersich finished 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI while Meghann Brennfleck was 2-for-2.
Heather Schultz (5-3) suffered the loss for UW-L, going 7.0 innings, allowing seven hits, two runs and three walks with three strikeouts. Rachel Weyer, Rachel Croak and Jenna Ahnen all had one hit for the Eagles.
UW-Whitewater tallied three times in the top of the first in the nightcap, highlighted by Brennfleck's two-run double. The Warhawks made it 5-0 in the second as Kate McDonnell and Gersich each had a sacrifice fly.
Gahl hit a solo home run in the sixth for a 6-0 lead before Katie Pietrowiak got the Eagles on the scoreboard with an RBI double scoring Kim Pietrowiak.
Nikole Schulty (5-1) picked up the win, pitching 7.0 innings, allowing five hits, one unearned run and one walk while striking out 10. Gahl finsihed 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI while Lauren Cruz was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Brennfleck finished 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Kaylyn Von Glahn (4-3) took the loss, going 0.2 of an inning, allowing four hits and three runs with one strikeout. Five different players had a hit for UW-L.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, April 19 hosting UW-Eau Claire at 2 p.m. at North Campus Field.
