UW-L Drops Non-Conference Twinbill with Luther

La Crosse, Wis. – The UW-La Crosse softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader with Luther College (Iowa) Sunday afternoon at North Campus Field. The Norse won the opener, 5-2, and the nightcap, 3-2 in eight innings. UW-L falls to 14-7 on the season while Luther improves to 17-7.

In the opener, Luther took a 2-0 lead in the second as Tiffany Kruse scored on a Jackie Miller groundout and Tami Mager drew a bases-loaded walk. UW-L tied the contest in the bottom of the fourth as Liz Bradley and Sarah Pfeifer hit back-to-back home runs.

The Norse tallied three runs in the seventh. After Heather Schultz got the first two batters, Kelsey Hake and Kruse drew walks. Danielle Armbruster then hit a go-ahead single for a 4-2 lead scoring Hake and Kruse scored on a UW-L error. Luther then scored the final run on another Eagles' error.

Kim Lambert picked up the win, pitching 4.0 innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out four. Kruse and Miller each had two hits for Luther. Schultz was the losing pitcher, going 7.0 innings, allowing seven hits, five runs (three earned) and seven walks with two strikeouts. Rachel Weyer and Rachel Croak each went 2-for-3.

In the nightcap, Luther lead 1-0 in the second on a UW-L error. The Eagles tied it in the fourth on Pfeifer's sacrifice bunt, but the Norse took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth on a bases-loaded walk. Bradley tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth as Bradley scored on a Luther error, but the Norse scored the game-winning run in the eighth on an error.

BreAnn VanDeer earned the win for Luther, pitching 8.0 innings, allowing eight hits, two runs (one earned) and one walk with nine strikeouts. Kaylyn Von Glahn took the loss, going 2.0 innings, allowing two hits and one run (unearned) while striking out two.

Ashley Hoffman was 3-for-3 for Luther while Bradley finished 3-for-4 with a run scored for UW-L.

UW-L returns to action Wednesday, April 9 at city-rival Viterbo University at 3 p.m.
