UW-L Advances in WIAC Tournament with Overtime Victory

La Crosse, Wis. The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team advanced to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Tournament Semifinals with a 3-2 overtime victory over UW-Oshkosh Tuesday afternoon at Veterans Field. The Eagles, the number four seed, will play at top-seeded UW-Eau Claire in the semifinals Friday, November 2. UW-L is now 11-5-1 on the season while UW-Oshkosh is 9-9-1.
It is UW-L's first conference tournament win since 1999.
Amy Cory scored twice in the first half to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead. She tallied her first goal at 21:38 with an assist from Michaela Kocon. Cory then scored her team-leading 12th goal of the season at 31:03 with an assist from Ramsey Weyenberg.
UW-Oshkosh, the number five seed in this year's tournament, came back to tie the match with two goals in the second half. Erin Rickard scored her sixth goal of the year at 58:17 to cut the margin to 2-1 and Dana Gudel tied it at 81:07 with an assist from Rickard off a Titans' corner kick. It was Gudel's fifth goal of the year.
Weyenberg then scored the game-winner at 93:14 for UW-L with Cory and Sarah Harrington recording assists. It was Weyenberg's eighth goal of the year and fourth game-winner this season.
UW-Oshkosh finished with 24 shots in the match, including eight on goal, while UW-L totaled 17 shots, including nine on goal.
The Eagles' Amanda Clark and Titans' Laura Neve each recorded six saves in goal.
UW-L returns to action Friday, November 2 at UW-Eau Claire in the WIAC Tournament Semifinals at 11 a.m.
