UW-L Falls at UW-Eau Claire in WIAC Semifinals

Eau Claire, Wis. The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team fell 5-1 at 15th-ranked UW-Eau Claire Friday afternoon in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Tournament Semifinals at Bollinger Fields. The Eagles drop to 11-6-1 on the season while the Blugolds improve to 17-1-2. UW-Eau Claire will host the winner of the second semifinal Friday, UW-Stevens Point vs. UW-Whitewater, in the WIAC Championship match Saturday, November 3 at 1 p.m.
UW-L advanced to the semifinals after recording its first WIAC Tournament win since 1999 with a 3-2 overtime victory over UW-Oshkosh October 30 in the quarterfinals.
UW-Eau Claire took an early 1-0 lead in Friday's semifinal as Gina Christenbury scored her sixth goal of the year at 1:48 with an asisst from Anna Talbot. Talbot then recorded her second assist of the match at 4:19 as Jessica Millard tallied her third goal of the season to make it 2-0.
UW-L cut the margin to 2-1 at 18:31 with Ramsey Weyenberg scoring, assisted by Amy Cory. It was Weyenberg's ninth goal of the season. UW-Eau Claire led 2-1 at halftime.
The Blugolds took a 3-1 lead at 52:26 as Jamie Schiesel scored her fifth goal with an assist from Amy Smith. Allison Muer scored unassisted at 76:02 to make it 4-1 and Liz Hunter finished the scoring at 89:40 with an assist from Shannon Conlin. Muer and Hunter each scored their third goals of the year.
UW-Eau Claire outshot UW-L, 25-7, including 14-3 on shots on goal. Liz Weirick and Allie Rivard played in goal for the Blugolds with each recording one save. Amanda Clark finished with nine saves for the Eagles.
UW-L recorded its most victories in a season since 2004 (11-7-1). The Eagles were also 5-3 in the WIAC this year, their most league victories since 2003 (5-2-1).
