Cory and Weyenberg Named to All-WIAC Soccer Team

La Crosse, Wis. – University of Wisconsin-La Crosse senior forward Amy Cory of Crystal Lake, Ill. (South) and junior midfielder Ramsey Weyenberg of Appleton (East) have been selected to the 2007 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Soccer Team in a vote by the league coaches. It marks the first all-conference honors for Cory and Weyenberg.

Junior defender Erin Oilschlager of Appleton (West) was named to the inaugural WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Cory led UW-L in goals (12), assists (6) and points (30) this season as she started 17 matches. Her 12 goals are tied for sixth in single-season school history while her 30 points ranks sixth. Cory is fourth in the WIAC this season in goals and points. She is tied for sixth in assists and tied for second in game-winning goals with four.

A transfer from St. Mary’s University (Minn.), Cory started 34 matches in her two seasons at UW-L. She ranks 11th in school history in career goals (11) and tied for 11th in points (33). Cory had two goals in five different matches this year. She tallied twice against Minnesota-Morris, Cornell College (Iowa), Simpson College (Iowa), UW-Superior and UW-Oshkosh.

Cory was a two-time WIAC Offensive Player of the Week this season.

Weyenberg started all 18 matches in 2007, finishing second on the team in goals (9), assists (5) and points (23). She is tied for the sixth in the WIAC this season in goals and points. Weyenberg is tied for eighth in assists and joins Cory tied for second in game-winning goals with four. She had two goals at Cornell College (Iowa) and versus UW-Oshkosh this year.

A three-year letter winner at UW-L, Weyenberg is tied for sixth in school history in assists (11). She is also tied for 11th in career points (33) and tied for 14th in goals (11).

Weyenberg was named the WIAC Offensive Player of the Week once this year.

Oilschlager started all 18 matches at defender in 2007. She helped lead UW-L’s defense to a 1.40 goals against average and six shutouts. Oilschlager, a two-year letter winner for the Eagles, has played in 38 matches at UW-L with 28 starts.

UW-L finished 11-6-1 overall and 5-3 in the WIAC this year. The 11 victories were the most since 2004 (11-7-1) while the five league wins were the most since 2003 (5-2-1). The Eagles fell 5-1 at UW-Eau Claire November 2 in the WIAC Tournament Semifinals. UW-L advanced to the semifinals after a 3-2 overtime victory over UW-Oshkosh in the quarterfinals October 30. It was UW-L’s first conference tournament win since 1999.
