UW-La Crosse Earns Academic Award

La Crosse, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse gymnastics team has earned a National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGA-W) academic award for the 2007-08 season. The Eagles finished with a 3.47 grade point average, 14th among all NCAA Division I, II and III institutions. Southeast Missouri State was first with a 3.82 grade point average. A total of 64 teams earned the award.

Seven members of the UW-La Crosse squad were also named as individual academic award recipients. Seniors Kasey Clausen of Apple Valley, Minn. (H.S.) and Jacqueline Schellinger of Fennimore (H.S.) along with juniors Jackie LaFleur of New Brighton, Minn. (Irondale) and Erin Sommer of Racine (Horlick) and sophomores Gabi Hooper of New Brighton, Minn. (Totino-Grace), Chelsy Luck of Greenville (Hortonville) and Kelsey Matula of Hastings, Minn. (H.S.) were all honored.

Clausen is a education major with a 3.59 grade point average while Schellinger is a sport managment major with a 4.00 GPA. LaFleur is majoring in computer science at 3.85 GPA and Sommer is majoring in therapeutic recreation major with a 3.84 GPA. Hooper is a community health education major with a 3.93 grade point average, Luck is majoring in recreation management with a 3.67 GPA and Matula is a communication studies major with a 3.57 GPA.

UW-L captured its 12th NCGA Championship in school history in 2008, including its seventh in the last eight years. The Eagles also won their 12th straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) title in 2008.
