UW-L Ends Regular Season with Loss to UW-Stevens Point

La Crosse, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women’s basketball team finished its regular season with a 62-48 loss to 20th-ranked UW-Stevens Point Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles, who had their five-game winning streak snapped, fell to 14-11 overall and 9-7 in the WIAC while the Pointers improved to 20-4 overall and 11-4 in the conference.

UW-L raced out to an 8-0 lead before UW-Stevens Point came back to take a 15-14 lead with 10:05 left in the first half. The Pointers led 23-20 with 6:18 remaining before ending the half on a 8-2 run to lead 31-22.

The Eagles cut the margin to nine three times in the second half, including 41-32 with 12:21 remaining. The Pointers then went on a 13-4 run to lead 54-36 with 8:30 left and UW-L could get no closer than 10 points the rest of the game.

Mackenzie Hunter led UW-L with 16 points while Melissa Lang had 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

UW-L shot 42.9% from the field and missed all three of its three-point attempts. The Eagles were six-of-eight (75.0%) at the free throw line.

Laura Neuenfeldt and Chelsea Kranz led UW-Stevens Point with 10 points each while Haley Houghton finished with nine and Jessi Sporle eight. Sporle also totaled a game-high 10 rebounds.

UW-Stevens Point shot 37.9% from the field, including 28.6% (six-of-21) from three-point range. The Pointers were 12-of-17 (70.6%) at the line.

UW-L returns to action Tuesday, February 26 at UW-Stout in the WIAC Tournament Quarterfinals at 7 p.m.
