UW-L Defeats Iowa Wesleyan in Thanksgiving Classic

La Crosse, Wis. The UW-La Crosse women's basketball team improved to 3-1 on the season with a 71-56 victory over Iowa Wesleyan College Friday night in Mitchell Hall in the Holiday Inn Express Thanksgiving Classic. Iowa Wesleyan falls to 3-4 on the year. It was the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
The Tigers took an early 14-6 lead with 12:42 remaining in the first half when the Eagles went on a 16-0 run to lead 22-14. UW-L led by as many as 19 points in the first half and led 40-25 at halftime.
Iowa Wesleyan cut the lead to six points two times in the second half, including 46-40 with just over 14:00 left. UW-L went on a 10-2 run to lead 56-42 with 7:42 remaining and the Tigers could get no closer than 10 points the rest of the game.
Mackenzie Hunter led UW-L with 17 points, hitting five-of-10 from the field (one-of-one from three-point range) and all six of her free throw attempts. Amanda Waldvogel finished with a career-high 15 points for the Eagles, going three-of-five from the field, including hitting both three-point attempts. She was seven-of-seven at the line. Lindsay Wahl had 11 points nad five rebounds while Dana Churchill grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
UW-L shot 37.7% from the field, including 50.0% (five-of-10) from three-point range. The Eagles were 26-of-28 at the free throw line. Taylor Larson was six-of-six at the line while Lindsey Litrenta was four-of-four and Sam Aspenson two-of-two.
Ali DeVries led Iowa Wesleyan with 18 points, hitting four-of-seven three-point attempts. She als ohad eight rebounds. Rachel Mitchell recorded a double-double with 15 points and game-high 10 rebounds while Heather Larson recorded 11 points.
Iowa Wesleyan shot 40.9% from the field, including 47.4% (nine-of-19) from three-point range. The Tigers finished 11-of-16 (68.8%) at the line.
UW-L returns to action Sunday, November 30 hosting Carroll University (Wis.) at 3 p.m.
