Four-Game Winning Streak Snapped with Loss to Sixth-Ranked UW-Eau Claire

La Crosse, Wis. – The UW-La Crosse women's basketball team had its four-game winning streak snapped with a 64-47 loss to sixth-ranked UW-Eau Claire Saturday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles fall to 13-5 overall and 5-4 in the WIAC while the Blugolds improve to 15-2 overall and 7-2 in the league. It is UW-Eau Claire's sixth straight win over UW-L.
UW-L led 12-11 with 12:16 left in the first half when UW-Eau Claire went on a 10-2 run to lead 21-14 with 6:00 remaining. The Blugolds led 29-23 at halftime.
The Eagles cut the lead to the Blugolds' lead to three points five times in the second half, including 41-38 with 11:07 left after a pair of Lindsay Wahl free throws. UW-Eau Claire later led 43-39 with 7:44 remaining when it went on a 12-4 run to lead 55-43 with 2:12 remaining. The Blugolds went nine-of-10 at the free throw line in the final 5:28.
Mackenzie Hunter led UW-L with 16 points, finishing six-of-13 from the field, including two-of-three from three-point range. She made both of her free throw attempts. Wahl finished with 13 points and six rebounds. She was three-of-five from the field and seven-of-12 at the line.
UW-L, receiving votes on the D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll, shot 30.4% from the field, including 37.5% (three-of-eight) from three-point range. The Eagles set season-lows in points (47) and field goals made (14). The team was 16-of-23 (69.6%) at the line.
Heidi Arciszewski and Hannah Mesick led UW-Eau Claire with 14 points each while Jodi Lindner scored 13. Mesick and Lindner each finished with eight rebounds. Heather Witt finished with 10 points and five steals.
The Blugolds, ranked sixth on D3hoops.com, shot 41.7% from the field, including 8.3% (one-of-12) from three-point range. UW-Eau Claire was 13-of-14 (92.9%) at the free throw line.
UW-L returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 28 at third-ranked UW-Whitewater at 7 p.m.
