UW-L Falls at Cardinal Stritch

Milwaukee, Wis. - The UW-La Crosse women's basketball team fell 80-46 at Cardinal Stritch University Saturday afternoon in the championship game of the All-Star Sportswear/Stritch Tournament in Milwaukee. The Eagles fall to 3-4 on the season while the Wolves improve to 8-2.
Cardinal Stritch never trailed in the game. It led 9-6 with 15:43 remaining in the first half and went on a 9-2 run to lead 18-8. UW-L came back to cut the deficit to 22-17 with 4:00 left in the first half on a Melissa Lang jumper before the Wolves took a 31-19 lead at halftime.
UW-L cut the lead to 34-25 with 18:18 left, but Cardinal Stritch went on a 21-6 run to lead 55-31 and the Eagles could get no closer than 16 points the rest of the game.
Lindsay Wahl led UW-L with 10 points and seven rebounds while Mandy Stevens and Lang each totaled six points. The Eagles shot 33.3% from the field, including 14.3% (one-of-seven) from three-point range. UW-L was 17-of-21 (81.0%) at the free throw line.
Jeni Caldwell led four Cardinal Stritch players in double figures with 15 points. She also had a game-high eight rebounds. Michelle Stelloh and Beth Gilgenbach each added 13 points while Tina Ewald had 11. The Wolves shot 55.4% from the field, including 78.3% (18-of-23) in the second half. The team finished 16-of-28 (57.1%) from three-point range, including 11-of-13 (84.6%) in the second half. Cardinal Stritch also finished two-of-four (50.0%) at the line.
UW-L returns to action Wednesday, December 5 at UW-Stevens Point at 7 p.m.
