UW-River Falls Snaps UW-L's Four-Game Winning Streak

River Falls, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women’s basketball team had its four-game winning streak snapped with a 58-56 loss at UW-River Falls Wednesday night in the Karges Center. The Eagles fall to 17-6 overall and 9-5 in the WIAC while the Falcons improve to 13-9 overall and 6-7 in the conference.

The contest was tied 15-15 with 11:18 left in the first half after UW-River Falls' Jenna Hanson hit a three-pointer. UW-L went on a 10-2 run to lead 25-17 with 6:50 remaining and later led 29-21 at halftime.

UW-River Falls opened the second half on a 22-4 run to lead 43-33 with 10:02 left as UW-L missed 14 of its first 16 shots of the second half. The Falcons led 49-35 with 8:18 remaining, but the Eagles cut the lead to 53-46 with 5:21 left on a Lindsay Wahl layup. UW-L later cut the deficit to 55-50 with 2:30 remaining on a Mackenzie Hunter jumper and 55-52 after a pair of Wahl free throws with 1:17 left. Taylor House gave the Falcons a 57-52 lead on a layup with 1:07 remaining, but the Eagles' Taylor Larson cut the lead back to three with a layup of her own with :26 left.

After Alise Holst missed a pair of free throws for UW-River Falls with :22 remaining, Hunter cut the lead to 57-56 with two free throws with :08 left. Kelli Hilt hit one-of-two free throws with :07 remaining for UW-River Falls to make it 58-56 and UW-L's Lindsey Litrenta missed a potential game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer.

Hunter led UW-L with 19 points while Wahl finished with 16. Both players had six rebounds. Melissa Lang also grabbed six rebounds. The Eagles shot 38.3% from the field, including 16.7% (two-of-12) from three-point range. UW-L was eight-of-13 (61.5%) at the free throw line.

UW-L had a season-high 27 turnovers and lost for the first time this season when leading at halftime.

Tiffany Gregorich led UW-River Falls with 13 points while Hilt finished with 10. The Falcons shot 43.8% from the field, including 20.0% (two-of-10) from three-point range. The team was 14-of-23 (60.9%) at the line.

UW-L returns to action Saturday, Feb. 14 at UW-Stout at 5 p.m.
