UW-L Finishes Second at Wartburg Select Meet

Waverly, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men’s track & field team placed second out of four teams at the Wartburg College Select Saturday night in Waverly, Iowa. The Eagles finished with 179.0 team points while Nebraska Wesleyan was first with 203.5. Wartburg was third (172.0) and UW-Platteville fourth (135.5).

UW-L won two relays Saturday. The Eagles captured the distance medley relay with an NCAA Division III automatic qualifying time of 9:57.02. UW-L also won the 4x200-meter relay (1:29.98).

Individually, four athletes took home titles. Matt Gordy won the 55-meter dash (6.48) while Dave Stauder captured the high jump (6-3 1/4), Jessie Dengsavang the triple jump (46-5 1/4) and Bobby Riley the shot put (52-3 1/4). Dengsavang and Riley provisionally qualified for the national championships in their respective events.

Other top finishers on the track included: Alex Rooker second (49.70) and Dylan Randolph third (50.23) in the 400-meter dash while David Kolbe placed fourth (22.62) and Jon Doble fifth (22.69) in the 200-meter dash. Logan O'Grady finished fourth (8:55.85) in the 3,000-meter run while Scott Hayden was fifth (8:56.98).

Sean Harrington was fifth in the 5,000-meter run (15:42.16) while Jamar Jackson placed third in the 55-meter hurdles (7.87).

UW-L also finished fourth in the 4x400-meter relay (3:30.77).

In field events, Bill Warren finished third in the shot put (47-9 1/4) and weight throw (48-0) while Aaron Johnson was second in the weight throw (51-6 1/4).

Jordan Young placed second in the long jump (21-7 1/2) while Anthony Hasse was third in the triple jump (43-7) and Jeremy Burish finished third in the pole vault (13-5 3/4).
