UW-L Finishes Fifth at NCAA III Championships; Riley and Stauder Earn All-America Honors

Marietta, Ohio – The UW-La Crosse men's track & field team finished fifth Saturday at the 2009 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships at Don Drumm Stadium at Marietta College. The Eagles finished with 26.0 points while UW-Oshkosh captured the national title with 46.0 points. McMurray University (Texas) was second with 40.0 points and the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) third with 39.0.

Salisbury University (Md.) placed fourth with 28.0 points followed by UW-L. Whitworth University (Ore.) and Trinity University (Texas) tied for sixth (23.0) while Buena Vista University (Iowa) was eighth (21.0). UW-Whitewater and Hamilton College (N.Y.) tied for ninth (20.0).

Bobby Riley and Dave Stauder each earned NCAA Division III All-America honors Saturday as Riley placed second in the shot put (58-9 1/4) and Stauder was fifth in the high jump (6-9).

Riley picked up his second All-America award of this year's championships after placing fourth in the discus throw Friday. He ends his career with nine All-America honors, including five outdoors. He was second in the shot put and third in the discus throw in 2007 and third in the discus in 2008. Riley has also won three indoor national shot put titles (2007, 2008, 2009) and finished seventh in 2005.

Stauder earned his second career honor and first outdoors with his fifth-place finish in the high jump Saturday. He was eighth in the high jump at the 2008 NCAA III Indoor Championships.

In other action Saturday, the Eagles' Andy Novak was 12th in the shot put (50-10 1/4). Dallas Vincent finished ninth (3:56.08) and Paul Zdroik 10th (3:59.51) in the 1,500-meter run while Zach Wilhelmy was 15th in the 5,000-meter run (16:15.98). Vincent was also entered in the 5,000-meter run, but failed to finish.

The Eagles' Zach Lee, Paul Yerhot, Matt Gordy and Alex Rooker were disqualified in the 4x100-meter relay final Saturday.
