UW-L Wins Drews Invitational; Zdroik Places Sixth Overall

West Salem, Wis. The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's cross country team captured the Jim Drews Invitational Saturday morning at Maple Grove Golf Course in West Salem. The Eagles, ranked third in NCAA Division III, finished with 75 team points. Iowa Central was second (84) followed by UW-Platteville (112), St. John's, Minn. (114) and Nebraska Wesleyan (162) to round-out the top-five.
Minnesota-Duluth finished sixth (169) followed by South Dakota State (178), Wartburg, Iowa (185), Luther, Iowa (237) and Hamline, Minn. (262) in the top-10. A total of 25 teams participated.
Leading the way for UW-L was Paul Zdroik, who placed sixth overall with a time of 25:30.64 on the 8,000-meter course. UW-Platteville's Tyler Sigl took the individual title (24:54.54) while St. John's Chris Erichsen was second (24:59.55). Iowa Central's Joshua Sawe was third overall (25:08.34) while his teammate Stephen Dax was fourth (25:08.71). Eric Atkinson of Minnesota-Duluth rounded out the top-five (25:18.37). A total of 406 runnerrs finished the race.
UW-L's Paul Moran finished 15th overall (25:51.18) while Connor Lonning placed 17th (25:55.05), Dallas Vincent 18th (25:56.41) and Ben Herdeman 19th (26:00.08).
The Eagles' Kyle Coghlan placed 29th overall (26:11.90) while Logan O'Grady was 39th (26:21.29); Scott Hayden 40th (26:22.06) and Ross MacDonald 41st (26:24.68). Other runners finishing in the top-100 for UW-L included: Chris Gilbert 47th (26:32.10); Dan Pizzi 50th (26:37.24); Josh Hohensee 56th (26:42.38); Tom Breitbach 61st (26:46.07); John Heitzman 65th (26:50.72); Sean Harrington 81st (27:09.00); Broc Vike 82nd (27:09.17); Connor Sparks 89th (27:17.90) and Wade Hassel 93rd (27:20.47).
