UW-L Wins Fourth Straight WIAC Title; Three Individuals Place in Top-10

Winneconne, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's cross country team captured its fourth straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship Saturday afternoon at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne. The Eagles have now won 29 league titles in school history.

UW-L finished with 40 points to win this year's championship while UW-Stevens Point and UW-Platteville tied for second with 65 points. UW-Whitewater was fourth (139) followed by UW-Oshkosh (150), UW-Eau Claire (177), UW-Stout (189), UW-Superior (204) and UW-River Falls (219).

The Eagles had three individuals place in the top-nine. Paul Zdroik was second overall for UW-L, running the 8,000-meter course in 24:35.63. UW-Platteville's Tyler Sigl captured the individual crown with a time of 24:11.85. UW-L's Connor Lonning was fourth (24:59.60) while Paul Moran finished ninth (25:17.82).

Dallas Vincent placed 12th (25:20.88) for UW-L while Ben Herdeman was 13th (25:31.26), Kyle Coghlan 14th (25:32.99), Dan Thour 15th (25:36.29) and Logan O'Grady 18th (25:42.89).

Zdroik and Lonning each earn All-WIAC First Team honors with their performances while Moran, Vincent, Herdeman and Coghlan are all named to the all-conference second team.

UW-L's John Heitzmann finished 22nd (25:50.91) overall while Scott Hayden placed 26th (25:53.60), Chris Gilbert 31st (26:04.98) and Ross MacDonald 32nd (26:05.17).

The Eagles' Don Fritsch was named the WIAC Coach of the Year while Thour was selected the Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete.

UW-L returns to action Saturday, November 10 at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne.
