FEE WAIVERS FOR UPWARD BOUND STUDENTS -
We have had many students and parents ask about fee waivers for the Advanced
Placement exams.
According to the
College Board website:
State law in Wisconsin (Wisconsin State Statute 120.12(22)) requires each school
district to pay the AP Exam fee for public school students who are eligible for
free or reduced-cost lunches in the federal school lunch program under 42 USC
1758. The student is a member
of a family receiving public assistance. The student is a
resident in a federally subsidized public housing project. The student is a
resident in a foster home. The student is an
enrollee in a program for the economically disadvantaged, such as
Federal Free or Reduced Lunch program, Upward Bound/TRIO after-school
programs, and other youth outreach agencies.
The
College Board's site on AP fee reductions says:
The College Board provides a $22 fee reduction per exam for students with
financial need. For each eligible student, schools should also forgo their $8
rebate. Thus, eligible students pay $56 per exam.
Upward Bound Eligibility is DIFFERENT than
School Lunch Program Eligibility! Estimated GROSS income for Upward
Bound eligibility = TAXABLE income + ($3,500 x family size) + standard deduction
