Finding Specific Periodicals
How do I know if Murphy Library has access to a specific
magazine or journal in any format—whether online through a
database, in paper, in microfilm, etc.?
Check the Periodicals Holdings List, which identifies where you can find periodicals in the library, in databases available to UW-L students, and in other libraries in La Crosse.
- To use the Periodicals Holdings List, enter the title of a periodical (not the title of an article or a topic).
The example below, taken from the Periodicals Holdings List, shows that Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise is available.
To determine locations and exact holdings, click on the
button.
How do I learn more about a publication, such as where it is indexed, if it has a website, who the publisher is, etc.?
Open Ulrich’s Periodicals Directory, and use the search box to find information about specific periodicals.
How do I find publications by a specific association?
Use Associations Unlimited. In addition to identifying associations related to your topics, Associations Unlimited also identifies which periodicals an association publishes.
How do I find if an article has been cited in another article?
Use the “citation indexes” that are included in Web of Science. You can enter information about a specific article and find out if other articles make reference to it. Or, search by subject, author, year, place, etc.
