Information Literacy
Students who graduate from the University of
Wisconsin-La Crosse need information literacy skills to
enable them to become “life-long learners who will be
engaged as knowledgeable and responsible citizens in a
diverse and ever-changing world.” (General
Education Mission Statement.)
What We Offer
More than 250 information literacy instruction sessions
are offered each year reaching more than 5,000 UWL
students annually. Class presentations through the
cooperative efforts of the instructor and the librarian
are designed to meet the needs of each instructor’s
course requirements. Librarians can introduce students
to library resources, information technology, research
strategies and information literacy skills such as
critical thinking.
Course Related Instruction Faculty and instructional staff at UW-La Crosse may
arrange course-related instruction on research
strategies and information sources,
related to a particular discipline or class project.
Sessions must be scheduled at least one week in
advance. The classroom instructor must be present. Most library instruction sessions will
be held in Room 30. To arrange for course related
library instruction:
Tours Walk-in tours of the Murphy Library Resource Center
are offered during the first week of classes in
the fall term. To arrange for a tour at another
time, call 785-8637 or email

Murphy Room 30 Many classes are held in Room 30,
which has been remodeled to accommodate both lecture/demo
style instruction as well as small group, hands-on
instruction.
Room 30 is UW-L's premier computer classroom designed
specifically for small-group work with shared computers.
Come see how well this concept works for library
instruction!

Seminar Room 120 is available to instructors who wish
to use it on an infrequent basis, to guide classes as
they conduct research in the library. It is also used
for library meetings. To reserve it, sign up on the
reservation calendar posted in the room.
