UW-La Crosse Falls to Loras and St. Mary's

Waverly, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-2 matches Friday night at the Wartburg College Classic in Waverly. The Eagles fell 3-2 to Loras College, Iowa (21-25, 21-25, 25-11, 25-21, 13-15) and 3-2 to St. Mary's University, Minn. (17-25, 25-21, 18-25, 25-21, 8-15). UW-L is now 1-6 on the season.

Versus Loras, Brianne Stankus led the Eagles with 17 kills and a .457 hitting percentage. She had one error in 35 attempts. Amanda Hardy and Katie Gunderson each finished with nine kills while Liz Schlobohm registered 40 assists.

UW-L hit .220 as a team.

Melannie Tate had a team-leading 20 digs while Stankus finished with 12. It was Loras' second victory over UW-L this season after defeating them 3-2 (25-17, 25-20, 12-25, 21-25, 15-12) Sept. 5 at the St. Mary's (Minn.) Classic.

Regan Riley led Loras with 12 kills in Friday's victory while Brittney Westermeyer finished with 11. Julie Rogers recorded 43 assists for the Duhawks, who hit .151 overall. Beth Miller had a match-high 26 digs and Loras had 8.0 team blocks.

Against St. Mary's, Stankus had 15 kills while Gunderson finished with 10. The Eagles hit .319 as a team with Schlobohm recording 39 assists.

Tate finished with 22 digs and Melany Vanden Langenberg had 10. UW-L had 10.0 team blocks, including six from Stankus.

Sarah Gardner led St. Mary's with 17 kills while Courtney Runge had 16 and Amy Kujak 14. Rachel Monterastelli had 30 assists and Brittany Cherwinka finished with 29. The Cardinals hit .333. Tara Rasmussen led the team with 27 digls while Runge added 15.

UW-L returns to action Saturday, Sept. 12 with two more matches at the Wartburg Classic. The Eagles face Nebraska Wesleyan University at 11 a.m. and Wartburg College at 1 p.m.
