UW-L Defeats UW-Stevens Point; Eagles to Host WIAC Quarterfinal

La Crosse, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team, tied for 17th in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) rankings, earned a 3-1 (30-21, 26-30, 30-23, 30-26) victory over UW-Stevens Point Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles improve to 21-8 overall and 4-4 in the WIAC while the Pointers fall to 21-11 overall and 4-4 in the conference. UW-L has now won 17 of the 18 last matches against UW-Stevens Point.

With the win, UW-L clinches the fourth seed for the WIAC Tournament and will host UW-Stevens Point Tuesday, October 30 at 7 p.m. in the tournament quarterfinals.

Amber Schoonover led the Eagles with 14 kills Wednesday night while Brianne Stankus added 12 and Nina Walch 10. UW-L's Katelyn Carlson finished with eight kills and became the sixth player in school history to record 1,000 in her career. She now has 1,002 in her career.

Carlson had a team-leading 20 digs against UW-Stevens Point while Schoonover (19), Melannie Tate (19), Emily Carroll (18) and Samantha Dries (17) all recorded double-digit digs. Dries also had 47 assists.

UW-L hit .229 as a team.

Shelly Maus led UW-Stevens Point with 17 kills while also finishing with 12 digs and seven blocks. Pam Nora added 12 kills and 10 digs. Amanda Nix led the Pointers with 22 digs while Jill Wittmann had 48 assists. UW-Stevens Point hit .158 as a team.

UW-L wraps up its regular-season Saturday, October 27 hosting Wisconsin Lutheran College at 2 p.m. in Mitchell Hall.
