UW-L Earns First WIAC Win of Season

Platteville, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team earned its first WIAC victory of the season with a 3-1 (26-30, 33-31, 30-21, 30-27) win at UW-Platteville Wednesday night. The Eagles improve to 16-4 overall and 1-2 in the WIAC while the Pioneers fall to 16-7 overall and 0-3 in the league.

Brianne Stankus led UW-L with 19 kills. She also added nine digs, seven blocks and three aces. Amber Schoonover added 14 kills and 19 digs for the Eagles while Samantha Dries totaled 44 assists and 15 digs.

UW-L, ranked 20th in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25, finished with 10.0 blocks and a .211 hitting percentage.

The match was played in front of a crowd of 1,015 in UW-Platteville's Williams Fieldhouse.

UW-L returns to action Friday, October 5 hosting UW-Stout at 7 p.m.
