UW-L Wins Twice at Invite; Off to Best Start in Thirty-Four Years

La Crosse, Wis. The UW-La Crosse volleyball team, ranked 24th in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), improved to 10-0 on the season with a pair of victories Friday night at the UW-L Invitational in Mitchell Hall.
The Eagles defeated Lakeland College (Wis.), 3-1 (30-17, 28-30, 30-17, 30-13) and Illinois Wesleyan University, 3-1 (25-30, 30-16, 30-22, 31-29). UW-L's 10-0 record is its best start since the 1973 season.
Versus Lakeland, Brianne Stankus and Katelyn Carlson each had 17 kills for UW-L. Amber Schoonover added 13 kills.
Melannie Tate led five players in double figures in digs with 21. Schoonover added 20 digs, Stankus 18, Samantha Dries 15 and Rosie Rislow 111. Dries also had 48 assists.
UW-L hit .278 as a team, including .455 in the fourth and final game with 16 kills and one error in 33 attempts.
Against Illinois Wesleyan, Schoonover led the Eagles with 14 kills and 19 digs.
Carlson added 13 digs while Nina Walch finished with 12 and Stankus 10.
Stankus, Rislow and Dries each had 15 digs while Tate finished with 12 and Walch
10.
Dries also added 46 assists.
UW-L hit .230 as a team, including .441 in the second game with 17 kills and two errors on 34 attempts.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, September 15 hosting sixth-ranked Carthage College (Wis.) at 10 a.m. and ninth-ranked University of St. Thomas (Minn.) at 2 p.m. in Mitchell Hall.
