UW-L Competes at Wartburg Twilight Meet; Eagles Win Eight Events

Waverly, Iowa – The UW-La Crosse women’s track & field team competed at the Wartburg College Twilight Meet Tuesday night in Waverly, Iowa. No team scores were kept.

The Eagles won eight individual events Tuesday night and two relays. On the track, Michelle Horn captured the 1,500-meter run (4:57.35), Abby Lien the 400-meter hurdles (1:03.55) and Megan Johnson the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:12.79). UW-L also took the 4x100 (48.32) and 4x400 (3:53.23) meter relays, which both provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships.

In field events, Caitlin Schetter swept the long jump (19-1 1/2) and triple jump (36-4) crowns, automatically qualifying the national meet in the long jump.

The Eagles' Kayla Johnson was first in the high jump (5-1) while Kaitlyn Joyce and Chris Clausen tied for first on the pole vault (10-5 1/2). Christy Bohl took the discus throw (134-4 meters) for UW-L.

Other top finishers on the track included: Katie Steingraeber placing second (25.85) and Caitlin Wippermann third (26.18) in the 200-meter dash while Kristina Bennwitz was second (5:02.93) and Rachel Boldt third (5:05.96) in the 1,500-meter run.

Clausen finished third in the 100-meter hurdles with an NCAA III provisionally qualifying time of 14.98.

In the field events, Jenna Starck was second in the high jump (5-1) while Krista Kopetsky was second (17-11 3/4) and Ashton May third (17-8 1/4) in the long jump. Abby Schultz finished second in the triple jump (36-0 1/4).

Kaitlin Genthe was third in the pole vault (10-5 1/2) and Bohl placed third in the shot put (38-6 3/4).
