UW-L Wins Wartburg Select; Finishes Seventh at Eastbay/Pointer Invite

Waverly, Iowa/Stevens Point, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women’s track & field team captured the Wartburg College Select Meet Saturday night in Waverly, Iowa. The Eagles finished with 246 points while Wartburg was second with 206. Nebraska Wesleyan placed third (174) and UW-Platteville fourth (55).

UW-L also finished seventh at the Eastbay/Pointer Invitational Saturday with 28 team points. UW-Eau Claire was first with 125. A total of 12 teams competed.

Six individuals captured crowns Saturday for UW-L at the Wartburg Select. On the track, Maggie Leyendecker won the 600-meter run (1:41.00) while Megan Dugan captured the 1,000-meter run (3:01.43).

In field events, Alecia Ellingstad won the pole vault (10-11 3/4), Katie Fondow the long jump (18-1 1/2), Caitlin Schetter the triple jump (36-6 3/4) and Christy Bohl the shot put (41-5 1/4). Fondow provisionally qualified for the NCAA III Championships with her performance in the long jump.

UW-L also won the 4x200 (1:44.24) and 4x400 (3:53.97) meter relays. The 4x400-meter relay provisionally qualified for the national meet.

Other top-finishers on the track included: Elicia Meyer placing second (1:42.07) and Beth Richmond third (1:42.70) in the 600-meter run while Rachel Boldt finished second (19:03.58) and Jenna Gerten third (19:04.53) in the 5,000-meter run.

Chris Clausen finished second in the 55-meter hurdles (8.56) while Sarah Duchow was third in the 55-meter dash (7.42). Ashley Pershing placed third in the 400-meter dash (1:00.85), Jessie Goessl was third in the 800-meter run (2:23.31) and Megan Johnson finished third in the 1,000-meter run (3:03.54).

In field events, Clausen was second in the pole vault (10-6) for UW-L while Krista Kopetsky placed second in the long jump (16-11 1/4) and Tina Schmidt second in the weight throw (50-0). Schmidt provisionally qualified for the NCAA III Championships in the weight throw. Jessie Schulz was third in the triple jump (34-7 3/4).

At the Eastbay/Pointer Invite, the Eagles sent four athletes to compete in the pentathlon. AnnMarie Glejf won the event with 3,046 points. Lauren Terry was second with 2,765 for UW-L while Leanna Nowicki placed third (2,669) and Megan Nitka fifth (1,959).
