UW-L Picks Up Pair of Wins in Florida

Orlando, Fla. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women’s tennis team improved to 8-5 on the season with a pair of victories Tuesday in Orlando. The Eagles defeated Stevens Institute of Technology (N.J) in their first match of the day by the score of 5-4 before earning a 6-3 victory over Siena College (N.Y.).

UW-L won four of six singles matches against Stevens Institute of Technology. Carlie Bohrman defeated Whitney Bender at No. 2 singles (6-0, 6-1) while Katie McDonald beat Allyson Kingman at No. 3 (6-1, 6-1).

Kristen Holle defeated Rebecca Ryba at No. 5 singles (6-4, 6-3) and Katie Cegelski beat Natalie Schloeder at No. 6 (6-3, 7-5). The Ducks won the No. 1 and 4 singles matches as Dana Bacalla earned a victory over Debbie Braun at No. 1 (6-1, 6-0) and Kendra Appleheimer beat Sarah Schoenwaelder at No. 4 (6-4, 7-6).

Stevens Institute won two of three doubles matches. Bacalla/Kingman defeated Schoenwaelder/Bohrman at No. 1 (8-4) while Schloeder/Appleheimer beat Anna Schmidt/Stephanie Platto at No. 3 (9-7). UW-L's Braun/McDonald earned a victory at No. 2 doubles (8-1) over Bender/Ryba.

In their win over Siena, the Eagles and Saints split the six singles matches while UW-L won all three doubles duals. McDonald defeated Jessica Asselin at No. 3 singles (6-4, 6-3), Schoenwaelder beat Lauren Garbade at No. 4 (4-6, 7-6, 10-8) and Holle defeated Dinka Keric at No. 5 (4-6, 6-3, 10-7).

Siena's Sarah Mayer earned the victory at No. 1 singles (6-0, 6-2) over Braun while Karina Davis defeated Bohrman at No. 2 (6-1, 6-4). The Saints' Jennifer Messing beat Cegelski at No. 6 singles (6-0, 6-3).

The Eagles won all three doubles matches with the Saints. Schoenwaelder/Bohrman defeated Davis/Asselin at No. 1 (8-5), Braun/McDonald beat Mayer/Garbarde at No. 2 (8-6) and Schmidt/Holle defeated Keric/Messing at No. 3 (8-4).

UW-L returns to action versus Franklin Pierce University (N.H.) Wednesday, March 19 at noon in Orlando.
