UW-L Completes First Day Action at ITA Regional

St. Peter, Minn. - The UW-La Crosse women's tennis team completed first day action at the ITA Midwest Regional Friday night at Gustavus Adolphus College. No team scores are recorded.

In singles action Friday, the Eagles' Kelly Kuether, Jenny Maruyama and Kelly Stadum each went 1-1. Kuether opened with a victory over Christine Muller of St. Olaf (6-4, 7-5) before falling to Marianne Barau of Gustavus Adolphus (7-5, 3-6, 16-14) in the second round. Maruyama beat Kelsey Eatherson of Hamline (6-3, 6-1), but lost to UW-Whitewater's Michelle Daciolas in the second round (6-3, 6-1).

Stadum defeated Kylie Huether of St. Benedict in a play-in match (6-1, 6-1) before losing to Ingrid Stensvaag of UW-Whitewater (6-7, 6-3, 11-9).

Sarah Schoenwaelder, Carlie Bohrman and Katie McDonald lost their only match in singles play Friday. Schoenwaelder fell to Amanda Wenzel of Macalester in the play-in round (6-0, 6-2). Bohrman lost to Allie Hinman of UW-Stout (6-2, 6-2) and McDonald to Erin Gudul of Carleton (6-2, 7-5) in their only match.

In doubles competition Friday, UW-L's Stadum/Kuether advanced to Saturday's competition after a win over UW-Whitewater's Amy Siemon/Kelly Rutkowski (8-5).

Bohrman/Schoenwaelder went 1-1 in Friday's competition. The duo defeated Rachel Tiegs/Ally Brandell of St. Benedict (8-6), but fell to Hillary Allen/Katy Delagardelle of Coe (8-5).

UW-L's McDonald/Maruyama lost to Kristina Naidicz/Beth Kaufman of Carthage in its only match of the day (8-3).
