UW-L Sweeps UW-Stout in Twinbill

Menomonie, Wis. – The UW-La Crosse softball team wrapped up its WIAC schedule with a doubleheader sweep at UW-Stout Monday night at Alumni Field. The Eagles won the opener, 5-3, and the nightcap, 7-0. UW-L improves to 22-15 overall and 8-8 in the WIAC while UW-Stout drops to 7-25 overall and 0-16 in the conference.

In the opener, the Eagles scored first in the top of the second on Rachel Weyer's RBI single scoring Kim Pietrowiak. UW-L added two more runs in the third to take a 3-0 lead on Kelsey Golackson's two-run single.

Liz Bradley had an RBI single in the fourth to give UW-L a 4-0 margin and Weyer made it 5-0 in the top of the fifth on a triple. UW-Stout tallied three times in the bottom of the inning for its scoring in the game.

Heather Schultz (7-6) picked up the win for the Eagles, going 4.1 innings, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out six. Kaylyn Von Glahn earned her first save of the season, pitching 2.2 innings, giving up three hits with three strikeouts.

Weyer finished 3-for-5 at the plate with a run scored and two RBI while Bradley was 2-for-3 and Golackson 2-for-4. Bradley scored one run and had an RBI while Golackson finished with two RBI.

Katie Fichter (3-11) suffered the loss for the Blue Devils, pitching 5.0 innings, allowing 10 hits, five runs (four earned) and three walks with two strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Shelly Monahan (5-2) pitched the complete-game shutout for UW-L. She went 7.0 innings, allowing five hits and one walk with five strikeouts.

UW-L took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on Bradley's RBI single scoring Weyer. Jenna Ahnen later scored on a wild pitch. Cara Salm hit a three-run home run for the Eagles in the third inning to make it 5-0 while Ahnen had a run-scoring single and Bradley a run-scoring double in the fourth for the final score of 7-0.

Ahnen was 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI while Rachel Croak was 2-for-4 with two runs and Bradley 2-for-4 with two RBI. Salm had three RBI.

Kristy Hoffman (2-6) took the loss for UW-Stout, going 3.0 innings, allowing eight hits and five runs with one strikeout.

UW-L wraps up its regular-season Wednesday, April 30 hosting Winona State University (Minn.) in a doubleheader at 3 p.m. at North Campus Field.
