Miller Selected to Academic All-District Second Team

La Crosse, Wis. – University of Wisconsin-La Crosse senior centerfielder Jenny Miller of Durand (H.S.) has been selected to the 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V Softball Second Team. She was named to the All-District Third Team last year. A fitness and pre-physical therapy major, Miller maintains a 3.87 grade point average and was also selected the recipient of the 2007 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award earlier this week.

The all-district team is comprised of all NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA players from Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Minnesota and is voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Miller, who played in all 38 games this season, earned 2007 All-WIAC First Team honors for the second consecutive season. She was also a 2004 All-WIAC Honorable Mention choice. Miller led UW-L in batting average (.403), at-bats (129), runs (27), hits (52), doubles (10) and walks (11) while tying for the team lead in stolen bases (7) this year.

She had a team-high 14 multi-hit games in 2007 and finished with at least one hit in 31 of 38 contests. Her 52 hits this year is tied for third in single-season school history while her 10 doubles is tied for seventh.

Miller is UW-L’s career leader in steals (46) while ranking third in career at-bats (478) and hits (167), sixth in runs (88) and eighth in batting average (.349).

Miller, who has been named to the UW-L Dean’s List in eight semesters, is also a strength and conditioning concentration and Spanish minor. She has been selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar-Athlete Team and been a member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll for four years.

UW-L finished 12-26 overall and 4-12 in the WIAC this season under second-year head coach Chris Helixon.
