UW-L Picks Up First Home Win of Season

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team picked up its first home win of the season with a 78-59 victory over UW-Platteville Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles, now 1-3 at home, improve to 7-8 overall and 2-4 in the WIAC while the Pioneers fall to 9-7 overall and 3-4 in the conference.

UW-L never trailed in the contest, racing out to a 16-2 lead. The Eagles led by as many as 23 points in the first half and led 44-23 at intermission. UW-Platteville had 20 turnovers in the first half leading to 23 UW-L points.

The Pioneers never got closer than 15 points in the second half. The teams combined for 50 turnovers and 40 fouls.

Mackenzie Hunter led four UW-L players in double figures with 11 points. She also had a game-high five steals. Dana Churchill, Amanda Waldvogel and Melissa Lang each added 10 points for the Eagles. A total of 12 different players scored for UW-L.

UW-L shot 50.0% from the field for the game, including 57.1% (four-of-seven) from three-point range. The Eagles were 18-of-25 (72.0%) at the free throw line. UW-L finished with 21 assists and 28 field goals made and 15 steals.

Lisa Wubben led UW-Platteville with 16 points and eight rebounds. The Pioneers shot 31.3% from the field, including 24.0% (six-of-25) from three-point range. UW-Platteville was 13-of-15 (86.7%) at the line and finished the game with 29 turnovers.

UW-L returns to action Saturday, January 19 hosting UW-Oshkosh at 3 p.m.
