UW-L Defeats UW-Oshkosh in Home Finale

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team improved to 20-2 overall and 5-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) with a 39-9 dual victory over UW-Oshkosh Friday night in Mitchell Hall in the Eagles' home finale. The Titans fall to 5-14 overall and 0-5 in the conference.

UW-L, ranked third in NCAA Division III, took a 4-0 lead as Brandon Music won by major decision (14-1) over Chad Leviner at 125-pounds. UW-Oshkosh came back to take a 9-3 lead as the Titans won the next two matches. Jared Jaminski won by decision (10-4) over Pat Parrillo at 133-pounds and Alex Mueller earned a win by fall (6:20) over Kevin Barber at 141.

The Eagles then won the final seven matches. Eric Seppelt won by major decision (14-4) over John Dangles at 149 to cut the Titans' lead to 9-8 and UW-L took a 13-9 lead as Jay Milz won by technical fall (16-1) over Bradon Welter at 157-pounds.

Tim Palmer won by major decision (12-1) over Kevin Luedtke at 165-pounds to give UW-L a 17-9 lead and Josh Chelf made it 23-9 with a win by fall (2:40) over Eli Felts at 174. Chelf recorded his 17th win of the season by fall.

Palmer and Chelf are both ranked first in the country and both improved to 34-3 on the season with their victories Friday night. Palmer improves to 123-28 in his career while Chelf is now 147-24. Palmer ranks fifth in school history in wins while Chelf is second.

UW-L's Josh Zabel, ranked third in NCAA III, improved to 31-6 on the year with a win by major decision (16-5) over Pat Detmer at 184-pounds. Tim Winker received a forfeit for the Eagles at 197-pounds and Dan Laurent ended the dual with a win by fall (:28) over Mike Kratz at 285.

UW-L returns to action Tuesday, February 12 at UW-Eau Claire at 7 p.m.
