UW-L Third After First Day of Competition at WIAC Championships

Eau Claire, Wis. – The UW-La Crosse men’s track & field team is in third-place after the first day of competition Friday at the WIAC Outdoor Championships at UW-Eau Claire. The Eagles have 25.0 team points. UW-Oshkosh leads the championships with 30.0 points while UW-Whitewater is second with 26.0.

UW-Stevens Point is in fourth-place (17.5) followed by UW-Eau Claire (16.5), UW-Platteville (16.0), UW-Stout (10.0), UW-River Falls (9.0) and UW-Superior (6.0).

In Friday's action, the Eagles' Alex Tapplin placed second in the pole vault (16-0 3/4) while Jason Prochnow was fifth (15-1) and Jeremiah Burish sixth (15-1).

UW-L's Logan O'Grady finished third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:26.26).

The Eagles' 4x800-meter relay placed sixth Friday (7:51.78) while Aaron Johnson was eighth in the hammer throw (162-4).

After five events in the decathlon, UW-L's Joel Nernberger is in 13th-place (2,795 points).

In track preliminaries, Matt Gordy (10.93) and Alex Rooker (11.07) both advanced to Saturday's final in the 100-meter dash while Rooker (21.91) and David Kolbe (21.93) advanced to the 200-meter dash final.

Dylan Randolph (48.45), Kolbe (48.77) and Jonathon Doble (49.24) all advanced in the 400-meter dash while Pat Ryan will ran in Saturday's final in the 110-meter hurdles (15.85).

Two runners, Andrew Boldt (1:54.68) and Adam Kleinmaus (1:55.15), advanced in the 800-meter run.
