UW-L Picks Up Pair of Victories

Orlando, Fla. - The UW-La Crosse men’s tennis team improved to 8-3 on the season with a pair of victories in Orlando Tuesday. The Eagles defeated Stevens Institute of Technology (N.J.) by the score of 8-1 in their first match before earning a 7-2 victory over Illinois Wesleyan University.

UW-L won five of six singles matches against Stevens Institute of Technology. Joey Van Lieshout earned a win over Piotr Rusinkiewicz at No. 2 singles (6-4, 7-5) while Dale Wroblewski defeated Jason Ringstad at No. 3 (6-2, 6-1).

The Eagles' Nathan Fekete beat Jay Lee at No. 4 singles (2-6, 6-4, 7-6), Paul Vickers defeated Kobe Attias at No. 5 (0-6, 6-4, 20-18) while Doug Marmar earned a win over Carlo Pardo at No. 6 (6-0, 6-3). The Ducks' Ricky Bawa defeated Mike Mooren at No. 1 singles (7-5, 6-4).

UW-L swept all three doubles matches. Wroblewski/Van Lieshout defeated Rusinkiewicz/Bawa at No. 1 (9-7), Mooren/Fekete beat Lee/Attias at No. 2 (8-3) and Taylor Schliewe/Mike Frenzel earned a win over Ringstad/Pardo at No. 3 (8-3).

Versus Illinois Wesleyan, UW-L took five of six singles matches as well. Mooren defeated Dan Chang at No. 1 (6-3, 2-6, 6-2), Fekete defeated Ryan Goergen at No. 3 (6-3, 6-0) while Vickers beat Art Kastl at No. 4 (6-2, 6-4).

Marmar defeated Vijit Chouhan at No. 5 (6-3, 7-6) singles and Frenzel beat David Dulmage at No. 6 (6-2, 6-4). Paul Oehrlein beat Van Lieshout at No. 2 (7-5, 6-2).

The Eagles took two of three doubles matches. Mooren/Fekete defeated Kastl/Chouhan at No. 2 (8-1) and Schliewe/Sam Talarczyk beat Goergen/Dulmage at No. 3 (8-5). The Titans' Chang/Oehrlein earned a win over Wroblewski/Van Lieshout at No. 1 doubles (8-6).

UW-L returns to action Wednesday, March 19 versus Franklin Pierce University (N.H.) at noon in Orlando.
