UW-L Opens Dual Season with Split

Cedar Rapids, Iowa - The UW-La Crosse mens tennis team opened its 2008 dual season with a split at Coe College Saturday afternoon in Cedar Rapids. The Eagles fell 8-1 to Coe before coming back to earn an 8-1 victory over St. Ambrose College (Iowa).
Mike Mooren picked up UW-L's only win in the dual at Coe, defeating Joey Lankelma at No. 1 singles (3-6, 6-4, 10-7).
Joey Van Lieshout fell at No. 2 singles for UW-L, losing to Sam Zerbib (6-1, 4-6, 6-2). Coe's Greg Janssen defeated Dale Wroblewski at No. 3 singles (6-1, 6-4) while Tom Jennings beat Nathan Fekete at No. 4 (6-2, 6-0).
The Kohawks Elliot Rausa defeated Paul Vickers at No. 5 singles (6-2, 6-2) while Scott Stegeman beat Doug Marmar at No. 6 (6-3, 6-3).
Coe took all three doubles matches. Zerbib/Rausa defeated Van Lieshout/Wroblewski at No. 1 (8-4), Jennings/Stegeman defeated Mooren/Fekete at No. 2 (8-5) and Lankelma/Janssen beat Mike Frenzel/Taylor Schliewe at No. 3 (8-3).
In UW-L's 8-1 victory over St. Ambrose, the Eagles took all six singles matches. Mooren defeated Kyle Wood at No. 1 (6-2, 7-6), Van Lieshout beat Luke Ebener at No. 2 (6-1, 6-1) and Wroblewski defeated Perry Bustle at No. 3 (4-6, 6-4, 6-4).
Fekete earned a singles win over Mike Menchill at No. 4 (6-3, 6-3), Vickers defeated Ryan Vretis at No. 5 (6-0, 7-5) while Marmar beat Chris Cassens at No. 6 (6-1, 6-1).
The Eagles took two of three doubles matches with the Bees. Mooren/Fekete defeated Vretis/Menchill at No. 2 doubles (8-5) and Frenzel/Schiewe beat Bustle/Andrew Sisto at No. 3 (8-2). Van Lieshout/Wroblewski fell at No. 1 doubles to Wood/Ebener (8-4).
UW-L returns to action Friday, February 22 hosting Lawrence University at 5 p.m.
