UW-L Places Second at Drews Invite; Three Runners Finish in Top-Six

West Salem, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's cross country team placed second at the 29th Annual Jim Drews Invitational Saturday morning at Maple Grove Golf Course. The Eagles finished with 49 team points while the University of Wisconsin took the team title with 32 points. UW-L is ranked third in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division III Poll while Wisconsin is 13th in NCAA Division I.

South Dakota State University placed third (92 points) Saturday while North Dakota State was fourth (205) and UW-Platteville fifth (206). Nebraska Wesleyan was sixth (233) followed by UW-Eau Claire (238), Iowa Central Community College (329), Luther, Iowa (333) and Augsburg, Minn. (335). A total of 29 teams, including unattached squads, competed in the meet.

UW-L had three runners place in the top-six Saturday morning, including Zach Wilhelmy who finished third overall with a time of 24:47.9 on the 8,000-meter course. Landon Peacock of Wisconsin won the individual crown with a time of 24:27.1. UW-L's Connor Lonning placed fifth overall (24:50.2) while Paul Moran was sixth (24:51.4).

The Eagles' Scott Hayden was 17th (25:11.1) while Dallas Vincent finished 19th (25:21.3).

Other finishers for UW-L in the top-100 included Sean Harrington 30th (25:42.6), Brian Shonat 36th (25:45.9), Kyle Coghlan 49th (26:04.9), Zach McFall 59th (26:11.3), Chris Glibert 60th (26:11.8), Kaiser Behnke 73rd (26:21.0), Phil Hernandez 86th (26:26.8), Michael Behringer 88th (26:29.0) and Josh Dedering 100th (26:32.8).
